Jsport begins
Jake Smart starts a mobile repair business while attending college, building on years already spent working in his family's European repair shops.
European Automotive Experience Since 1995
Jsport Autowerks is a Bellingham European auto repair shop built on a lifetime of diagnostics, dealership service, hands-on repair and motorsports.
Where It Started
Founder Jake Smart grew up around Volkswagen, Audi and Porsche vehicles. His father operated Gertie’s VW, a well-known California specialty repair shop, wrecking yard and body shop, and later The Bug Doctor in Washington. Jake spent years working alongside his father and absorbing the practical knowledge that only comes from living in the automotive world.
That experience started early. While still in high school, Jake was already known as someone who could diagnose and repair vehicles; teachers even brought their own cars into shop class for him to fix.

Independent specialty shops, dealership service, engineering studies and racing add new layers to Jsport’s European automotive knowledge.
Jsport serves European vehicle owners from Bellingham, across Washington and beyond with more than 100 years of combined team knowledge.
How Jsport Got Its Name
While buying parts at a local NAPA store, Jake was told he purchased enough to need a business name. Someone entered “Jsport” on the invoice: “J” for Jake and “sport” for the performance-oriented cars he worked on. The name stayed.
Jsport quickly became known for Volkswagen, Audi and Porsche repair, diagnostics and performance work. As the business grew, so did its knowledge across European makes—from everyday drivers to rare and high-performance vehicles.
Knowledge With Proof Behind It
Jsport’s approach was shaped in independent specialty shops, dealerships, classrooms, service departments and professional motorsports.
Former ASE L1 certification, engineering studies and decades of hands-on troubleshooting support a disciplined diagnostic process.
Jake earned the nation’s #2 Mercedes-Benz Service Index ranking and a separate Platinum Award given to only ten people nationally for new-product and systems knowledge.
Racing since age five now includes work with The Heart of Racing’s IMSA Aston Martin Valkyrie program—experience that demands precision, preparation and sound decisions under pressure.
Jake’s background includes Paul Weir Porsche, Scottsdale Ferrari and dealership experience across Mercedes-Benz and numerous other automotive brands.
Technical Knowledge Meets Customer Care
Jake studied engineering and completed an engineering internship before choosing to build his career around the work he already understood best: automotive diagnostics and repair. Earlier in his career, he earned several ASE certifications, including the advanced L1 certification.
At Mercedes-Benz, Jake achieved the second-highest Service Index ranking in the nation for customer service. He also received a separate Platinum Award—given to only ten people nationally—for understanding new Mercedes-Benz products, technology and vehicle systems.
His European automotive background also includes time at Paul Weir Porsche and an early-career opportunity at Scottsdale Ferrari. Each experience added another perspective on specialist repair, dealership systems and the expectations surrounding high-level European automobiles.
Jsport Today
Jsport is bigger than one person. Its team combines more than 100 years of automotive knowledge and brings multiple perspectives to complex mechanical, electrical and drivability problems.
As a Liqui Moly Pro-Line shop, Jsport also represents products it has used and trusted for more than 20 years. The goal remains straightforward: understand the vehicle, identify the real problem and perform work worthy of the customer’s trust.
“When we take care of someone’s vehicle, we’re taking care of them.”
